The Arab Gulf Fund for Development (AGFUND) International Prize for Pioneering Human Development Projects has launched its 2012 search for pioneering and innovative projects, which is open to all countries.
The AGFUND International Prize for Pioneering Human Development Projects was established in 1999 by the Riyadh-based Arab Gulf Programme for Development, with the aim of promoting innovation and creativity in the areas of human development. Since 1999, over a thousand entries submitted by more than 130 countries were nominated, with 494 coming from Asian countries, 427 from Africa, 55 from Latin America, 22 from Eastern Europe, and one each from North America and Australia. There have been 42 winners so far, with the value of prizes awarded totaling US$4,480.000.00 for these winners.
For this year. the organizing committee selected the theme “Food Security for the Poor,” with the cash prizes fixed at US$200,000.00 for First Category (for projects of UN agencies and international or regional NGOs), US$150,000.00 for Second Category (projects of national NGOs), US$100,000.00 for Third Category (projects of national government agencies), and US$50,000.00 for Fourth Category (projects of individuals).
